Soi Cowboy is a famous street in Bangkok, Thailand, known for its vibrant nightlife and entertainment scene. It is a short street, only 150 meters long, located in the Khlong Toei Nuea area of the Watthana district. Soi Cowboy is home to around 40 bars, mostly go-go bars, that cater mainly to tourists and expatriates.
Soi Cowboy is situated near Sukhumvit Road, between Asok Montri Road (Soi Sukhumvit 21) and Soi Sukhumvit 23. It is within walking distance from the BTS Skytrain’s Asok Station and the Bangkok MRT’s Sukhumvit Station. The Pullman Bangkok Grande Sukhumvit Hotel is also nearby.
The first bar opened in Soi Cowboy in the early 1970s, with the street gaining popularity in 1977 when a second bar was opened by T. G. “Cowboy” Edwards, a retired American airman who often wore a cowboy hat. The street was named after him by nightlife columnist Bernard Trink. By the end of the century, the number of bars had grown to 31, all located on the ground floor.
Soi Cowboy has been featured in various movies and TV shows, including Hugh Grant’s visit during the filming of Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Scenes were also shot in Soi Cowboy for the film Bangkok Dangerous.
