What is Siam called now?

The History

Thailand, formerly known as Siam, has undergone a few name changes throughout its history. The name Siam was officially changed to Thailand on June 24, 1939. However, in 1946, the name was reverted back to Siam. It wasn’t until 1948 that the country’s name was officially changed back to Thailand, and it has remained as Thailand since then.

Why the Change?

The name change from Siam to Thailand was a reflection of the country’s cultural identity and heritage. “Thailand” translates to “Land of the Free” in Thai, emphasizing the country’s independence and sovereignty.
